Review of Altmann BYOB Amplifier:

Hello Charles,

I can now relax as BYOB Amp works brilliantly out-of-the-box. It drives the speakers with an ease and a matter of course that seems right out of proportion? Whether it is Apil Wine, Bach, or Brecker bros. it is opening up for a view-of-flesh-and-blood that is hard to beat. Dynamics are great, and I mean great. Fits my speakers to the bone...

The piano is (also) a tricky instrument to reproduce with all it's colors, rythms and "breath" (all instruments are unique in fact but fairly all HiFi I hear is one note reproduction). I have enjoyed some Scarlatti piano sonatas (Horowitz) yesterday, and what a bliss it was. The quietness due to the lack of earthing/connection to the mains and sharing same with other equipment (current loops etc.) really does it. Transparency and air, very enjoyable.

The temperature issue I worried about does not exist at the levels I play at. I can play loud for a long time without registering a severe heatup, the temperature is not cold, nor warm. I guess app. 37 deg. - it's very human :-)

Thank you for the wooden volume knob, I did notice it on the homepage but was not sure if applicable to a newcomer. The power cable comes with two connectors I see. Thank you:-) Not a bad suggestion at all as I do think about changing DAC to support the BYOB Amp performance. The pole clamps are second-to-none, and the Wow effect is instant.

And now I wish you a Happy Easter & Best regards

Kristian Pedersen
